mechanical birds

the following 10 are from the trip to italy i took with my family this summer, i've broken it up into two posts and this is the first part of the holiday in venice, then the dolomites.

i took this one on the last night of the 3 day stay in venice in a storm, after about 30 photos of a canal i managed to catch the lightning, too bad there was water on the lense (over the lights in the left hand of the frame) although i couldnt help this much due to the pouring rain.

obligatory venetian gondola shot.

one of the few sunny days in the dolomites.

this was taken from inside one of the bucket style cable cars seen in the picture. these only had space for 2 people maximum, and they swung around in the wind leading up to the top. the whole journey from bottom station to the top took about 25 minutes in all, but felt like days.

this peak is called monte cristallo, and is where they shot most of the sylvester stallone thriller 'cliffhanger'. those that have seen it will know the film is set in the rocky mountains of canada, but it was actually filmed in the dolomites becuase it was cheaper to make.

francesca stands over a 10,000ft drop.

this is probably the most extreme vehicle i have ever seen. just look at all that kit!

i thought at first this building was a bunker from the ww2, but its actually a memorial building from ww2. it sits at the top of the valley by passo pordoi.

i can't remember the name of this one,i do remember being caught out by the weather though; i thought it was going to be sunny and hot in the dolomites so i decided not to pack any trousers. there's a lesson in there.

another unknown peak, this one taken from inside the caves above the falzarego pass.

in the backseat

these two pics are of cambridge motormouth will hermmann, both taken today. the first is bedminster's big fat hip and the second is at some nice steep banks on the other side of town.

eagle coming in to land: the herminator.

a turndown was also attempted but darkness and bank slipperyness were a few factors contributing to the subsequent crash which ended the fun.

sweetest decline

jason crooks this ledge on spike island, he didn't properly land it but its the better photo of the lot, and the first attempt at skate pictures for a long while.

BS1

so my first post from my home for the next 3 years comes, and i have a few pics from my first few days here. i was feeling pretty apprehensive about the move down here, wondering what the flat and my flatmates would be like, but i am happy to say its all really good. the flat is on the 10th floor up right in the centre of town, with a good sized bedroom and nice big desk too, all the people in halls with me are sound and i've even met another bmxer called will!

man standing at bristol docks in smoke.

i went to watch the bristol half marathon on sunday and took this photo of a marathon marshal directing all the runners where to go, i can't see much need for the directions though, perhaps she thought they might've got lost?

the view from my window the other night.

feng shui

this pic is from a long day in preston today and a lot of luck with the weather as it was supposed to rain all day, but didnt until i got off the train back to home. i think its quite self explanatory really, but just incase: gaz is doing a barspin on a bank at preston uni.

300

this as you might realise from the title is the 300th post of this website, and what better a post than to show a few photos from the summer gone before i go down to bristol on friday.

a man walks past the massive thames barrier.

clarky tucks out of a shadowed wall in mcr.

discussing footy tactics and casual stances in offerton.

clarky hijacks the post with a hop over to feeble in manchester grammar, home to the rudest security guard in the north.

smith to b's ldn - or you could just say clarky did a smith grind to barspin out when we went up to london for the weekend.

clarky whips out of a bench in a lovely park near the millenium dome.

owain clinging on to some imaginary handlebars after gapping from the carpark level above just out of shot in lovely northwich, this was a sequence but i decided to not bother with all the pictures as you'll probably see it on a video sooner or later with the 5 cameras it took to document such a fete. it would seem from the post on gain and this picture that owain is a rubbish rider, but let me a assure you these (or at least mine) are purely in jest and he is in fact a very good bmx stunt rider, even if he can't imitate a golden eagle swooping in on its prey after doing a wallride.
