mechanical birds

the following 10 are from the trip to italy i took with my family this summer, i've broken it up into two posts and this is the first part of the holiday in venice, then the dolomites.

i took this one on the last night of the 3 day stay in venice in a storm, after about 30 photos of a canal i managed to catch the lightning, too bad there was water on the lense (over the lights in the left hand of the frame) although i couldnt help this much due to the pouring rain.

obligatory venetian gondola shot.

one of the few sunny days in the dolomites.

this was taken from inside one of the bucket style cable cars seen in the picture. these only had space for 2 people maximum, and they swung around in the wind leading up to the top. the whole journey from bottom station to the top took about 25 minutes in all, but felt like days.

this peak is called monte cristallo, and is where they shot most of the sylvester stallone thriller 'cliffhanger'. those that have seen it will know the film is set in the rocky mountains of canada, but it was actually filmed in the dolomites becuase it was cheaper to make.

francesca stands over a 10,000ft drop.

this is probably the most extreme vehicle i have ever seen. just look at all that kit!

i thought at first this building was a bunker from the ww2, but its actually a memorial building from ww2. it sits at the top of the valley by passo pordoi.

i can't remember the name of this one,i do remember being caught out by the weather though; i thought it was going to be sunny and hot in the dolomites so i decided not to pack any trousers. there's a lesson in there.

another unknown peak, this one taken from inside the caves above the falzarego pass.
